Web Art 2 - Spring 2020 Session
Additional Course Description
Given that Web 2 students have already completed Web 1 they are expected to work independently and to present work of a more refined quality than Web 1 students. If the student has NOT been unable to work independently in past Web Art 1 classes and has not demonstrated adequate skills and the ability to develop quality work then they are strongly advised NOT to take Web 2.
Web 2 students are expected to follow along with Web 1 students through the completion of Project 2 “The Art of the GIF”. After which students are expected to complete 3 (three) Independent Projects over the course of the semester in addition to completing 1 (one) professional quality web portfolio.
Each independent project must offer you new and different challenges. For example: you could do one themed website, one augmented reality piece with Zappar and one Locative media piece with Echoes. Or, you could create one interactive game, one multimedia performance, and one exploratory sound piece. The point is that these 3 pieces use different interactive mediums and give you the opportunity create 3 different experiences.
Each project should abide to the project schedule and abide to the following criteria:
Before embarking on each independent project Web 2 students must conceptualize their approach and present a project proposal to the class and instructor in the form of a single page published on their website. This page should include:
-
A clearly written description explaining your concept. such as a story outline and/or description of what sort of interactivity the piece will have.
-
Answer questions like: Will you be creating an interactive website? Will you be creating an augmented reality experience? Or, will you be introducing us to another form of interactive multimedia? Will you be incorporating animated titles, Video, GIFs and sound design?
-
Include images that set the mood and illustrate the family of colors, textures, even sounds your work will contain. (Google "Mood Board" for examples.)
-
In addition, you may also provide a link to an inspirational web site or other media if this will help convey your approach.
-
A timeline outlining what tasks will be completed at what dates so your project comes together on time.
Each project proposal must be given the “go ahead” by both instructor and class before beginning the project as noted in the project schedule.
