PROPOSAL FOR

Delightingales

The catalyst for this proposed work stems from an exhibit at Musée Patamécanique titled “Seven Singing Nightingales from the Emperors Enchanted Forest”.

The piece features a chandelier of singing animatronic birds.

These plastic creatures are essentially “hacked” toys. The tiny microprocessor brains that powered their movements and voices have been replaced with a programmable stamp module. (More on this if you're interested)

At a chosen point during a tour the flock serenades museum visitors with a mischievous song that alludes to social e-networks as a form of puppetry that invests our lives with, endless distraction, artificial perception and arbitrary values.

While the piece is generally well received the tiny servos that power the bird’s movements have proven to be unreliable – to the point that sometimes only two or three members of the flock activate and provide movement.

For this new version of the piece the mechanical birds will be replaced with performing a "video sculpture” of birds on a tree branch. When “triggered” a video projection utilizing techniques similar to those employed by artist Tony Oursler will be cast upon the bird bodies – and the flock of birds will sing their silly song!

MY TEST - THE EYE'S WILL BE VIDEO

November 28 2016 - tinkering around with the composition in After Effects... not happy yet.

I NEED MORE EYES!

As of Dec 12 2016 - Seems dark - this is because the brightness is calibrated for a specific projector projector.
